Firefighters rescued a man in his sixties from the Brussels-Charleroi canal on Tuesday morning in Brussels.
The man was resuscitated on site and transported to the hospital in critical condition, as reported by the Brussels fire department.
The incident occurred around 09:20 near Petit Chateau. A witness phoned the emergency services, prompting the arrival of firefighters, medical teams, a police patrol from Brussels West, and a team from the harbour master.
"The caller who reported the incident to our CU112 stayed on site to show us precisely where the victim was located," explained fire department spokesperson Walter Derieuw.
"The man was floating face down in the canal. A diver entered the water to turn the victim over and, with help from the crew of the harbour master’s boat, hoisted him into a basket to remove him from the water."
The sixty-year-old was immediately resuscitated by medical staff and taken to the hospital in critical condition. “The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident,” added the fire department spokesperson.
