Women more vulnerable to drugs

Women are in majority (63%) of the persons admitted to a hospital for psychotropic intoxication, according to Minister of Health Maggie De Block (Open VLD), in response to a question from CD&V MP Els Van Hoof, quoted by DH and Het Laatste Nieuws.
Yet, women use fewer drugs than men do. On the other hand, men are more often victims of drug use than female consumers are: between 2004 and 2014, 571 people passed away in Flanders because of illegal drug use, among whom only 117 women, MP Van Hoof said.

Overall, the number of Belgians hospitalized for drug use increased by 7% between 2014 and 2016 (6,361 cases).
