He stated that the new case, a woman who tested positive on Saturday, had been in contact with the food seller who died on August 28th in the village of Sellu Kafta in the Kambia district.
Just before these new cases appeared, Sierra Leone had hoped to be on course for total eradication of the virus, after the last-known Ebola case was discharged from hospital on August 24th at Makeni in the Centre-Nord region, after more than two weeks without signs of any new infection.
The village of Sellu Kafta, with a population of nearly 1000 inhabitants, was placed in quarantine for twenty one days last week, the maximum virus incubation time. One hundred people there have started to receive a vaccine which was tested in neighbouring Guinea. Health officials say that the immunisation programme is progressing satisfactorily.
