The Delta Tunnel in the southeast of Brussels will reopen on Saturday after renovations were completed more quickly than expected.
Work began on 15 July to remove asbestos and repair and protect the tunnel's reinforced concrete ceilings. The tunnel complex connects the A4/E411 with Avenue de Beaulieu in Auderghem.
Though traffic will again be able to use the tunnel during the day, at night it will close between 22:00 and 06:00 until late December.
Meanwhile, renovations on Beaulieu Bridge – which runs across E411 – will continue until 13 September, but traffic will be allowed to pass through the area in one direction. Tervuren tunnel will reopen to traffic on 1 September.
Schuman roundabout
Brussels Mobility – the body responsible for the renovations – also drew attention to the progress of works at the Schuman roundabout. The cycle lane now takes two-way traffic and the right-hand car lane on Rue de la Loi is expected to be removed by 16 September "at the latest".
The junction between the roundabout and rue de la Loi in front of Berlaymont was closed to traffic this summer. Works will continue until early 2025 but the side will be reopened to traffic on 31 August.
Traffic drops by 20% in the summer months, making it the best time to carry out works on Brussels' road infrastructure.
