A 57-year-old cyclist died after an accident on Friday evening in Veurne, according to the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office.
The male cyclist fell into the canal just before 21:00.
As reported by VRT, emergency services were notified that a bicycle with a burning light was lying in the canal. Fire brigade divers were deployed and quickly pulled a man out of the water. He was lying about 100 meters from his bicycle.
Rescue workers were unable to resuscitate the man.
An expert concluded that no third party was involved in the accident.
