Two people were injured in a stabbing incident on Wednesday evening in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office reported on Thursday.
Both victims are in stable condition and their lives are not in danger. Gunshots were also fired in the area that evening, but it is unclear if the incidents are connected.
Around 23:50 on Wednesday, Brussels-West police were alerted to gunshots at Bonnevie Park in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean.
"Upon arrival, officers found no one at the scene but discovered shell casings near the park," said the spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office. "During a further search, police found a wounded man between two parked cars on Rue de Berchem."
The victim had sustained stab wounds and was immediately taken to the hospital.
"Shortly afterwards, another injured person was found on Rue de la Carpe," the spokesperson added. This victim also had stab wounds and was transported to the hospital. "The condition of both victims is stable and their lives are not in danger."
A judicial exclusion zone was established, and the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office was notified. A forensic pathologist and a ballistics expert were appointed, and the federal police lab conducted the necessary analyses on-site.
"No suspects have been arrested at this stage of the investigation," the Prosecutor’s Office noted. "It is not yet established whether the stabbings are related to the reported gunshots at Bonnevie Park."
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released in the interest of the case.
