The last of  six prisoners who escaped from Saint-Hubert prison (Luxembourg province) on Wednesday has been arrested, the prison administration confirmed on Thursday.

The fugitive was walking along a main road when he was arrested. He is to be transferred to a high-security prison, the prison authorities said late in the morning.

The search efforts to find the last fugitive resumed on Thursday after being paused at around 21:30 on Wednesday night.

Three of the six inmates were quickly recaptured on Wednesday after scaling the perimeter fence using a makeshift ladder. The three men injured themselves jumping from the six-metre-high fence.

Two more escapees were apprehended later in the day following a police search with the support of a helicopter and sniffer dogs.

The last fugitive was arrested on Thursday. He was not considered particularly dangerous, the Luxembourg Public Prosecutor's Office noted on Wednesday evening.

In April 2023, ten inmates also escaped from the semi-open Saint-Hubert prison by creating a breach in the fence with a disc cutter.
