A US federal judge has suspended President Donald Trump's proposed entry ban for nearly all foreign nationals seeking to study at Harvard University.

The ban aimed to suspend visas for new international students attending Harvard, citing a need to limit access for those coming to the US primarily for study or exchange programmes at the prestigious institution.

Judge Allison Burroughs halted the enforcement of the policy until 20 June and scheduled a hearing for 16 June. This decision follows her earlier move to extend the suspension of the ban. Harvard can, for now, continue to enrol foreign students with visas.

Trump’s administration has targeted universities that have permitted pro-Palestinian protests, accusing them of fostering liberal ideologies and failing to protect Jewish students.

Critics argue that the administration is using claims of antisemitism to exert pressure on liberal universities.
