A code orange and code yellow were issued for several areas across Belgium on Wednesday by the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).

The RMI issued a code orange warning for the provinces of Limburg, Liège and Luxembourg. A code yellow warning is in force for Antwerp, Flemish Brabant, Hainaut, Namur, Walloon Brabant and Brussels. No warning is in place for the coast and West and East Flanders.

With a north-westerly flow, less warm air will gradually enter the country today. As a result, maximum temperatures at the coast will be limited to around 22 to 23°C. Elsewhere in the west, it will range between 23 and 29°C. In the centre, it is expected for maximum temperatures to be between 29 and 32°C.

In the east and south of the country, maximum temperatures will fluctuate between 33 and 37°C, or even 38°C locally.

A code yellow warning for thunderstorms is in effect for Limburg, Liège, Namur and Luxembourg. Later in the afternoon, there is a chance of heavy thunderstorms locally, especially in the eastern half of the country. There a chance of heavy rainfall, strong gusts of wind and hailstones.

Severe thunderstorms are also possible elsewhere, but too localised or with too little chance of reaching code yellow.
