Belgium is set to sign six new strategic partnerships on Thursday at the Ukraine donor conference in Rome to support the country’s reconstruction, according to Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot.

Prévot (Les Engagés) emphasised that Ukraine deserves "ongoing commitment," stating that supporting Ukraine means preventing any European nation from being crushed by violence. Only a just peace, based on law and sovereignty, will be acceptable.

The two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025 is being held in Rome on Thursday and Friday. Belgium has already shown support for Ukraine in various capacities. These six new partnerships are intended to reinforce Belgium’s position as a "reliable and ambitious partner" in rebuilding the nation.

Specifically, Enabel, Belgium’s agency for international cooperation, will sign five letters of intent with Ukraine’s ministries of Economy, Health, Energy, Education, and Regional Development. The agreements focus on modernising public services, strengthening energy supply, enhancing medical and educational infrastructure, and supporting local employment.

Additionally, BIO Invest, the Belgian investment company for developing countries, announced a €5 million agreement with Bank Lviv, marking its entry into the Ukrainian market. The funding is aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises, providing a crucial boost to employment.

"What we are doing today is more than an act of solidarity. It is an investment in peace, dignity, and freedom. If we want Ukraine to endure and sustainably recover, we must equip it with the means to do so within its own borders," said Prévot.
