After a stabbing on Thursday afternoon in Tervuren, the Leuven public prosecutor’s office has launched a judicial investigation for attempted murder, the office reported on Friday.

“On Thursday, 24 July 2025, around 13:29, emergency services were called to a bicycle shop on Brusselsesteenweg in Tervuren,” stated the prosecutor’s office. “There, it was found that a 59-year-old man from Bertem had been attacked with a knife. He was transported to the hospital but is not in life-threatening condition. The suspect, a 29-year-old man from Zaventem, was arrested at the scene.”

Local detectives have commenced an investigation, with both the forensic lab and medical examiner appointed to the case.

“Initial findings indicate the man was stabbed once in the leg and sustained several cuts,” the prosecutor’s office continued. “The investigative judge has been engaged for attempted murder. He will interrogate the suspect further and decide on a possible detention. The Voer and Dijle police zone’s detectives will continue the investigation under his guidance.”
