The major renovation plans for Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels have been postponed until 2030 and will be less extensive than originally intended, according to a government memorandum cited by business newspaper L’Echo on Saturday.

Under the previous government, the costs were estimated at €88.6 million for 2030, but only €26 million will be allocated during the current legislative term.

The budget will predominantly fund the renovation of facades and window frames. Discussions are ongoing within the government to determine which projects are feasible in the short term.

The memorandum is signed by ministers Theo Francken (Defence, N-VA), Bernard Quintin (Interior, MR), and Vanessa Matz (Les Engagés), responsible for State Building Management.

The idea of a fully renovated Cinquantenaire Park by 2030 now seems abandoned. The previous federal government aimed to refurbish the park to celebrate Belgium’s 200th anniversary.
