The Belgian Minister for Public Sector Modernisation, Vanessa Matz (Les Engagés), has announced a call for projects aimed at making digital technology accessible to all citizens.

Under the initiative, called Digital Inclusion 2025, selected projects could receive subsidies of up to €200,000, with applications open until the end of September. “Our goal is to give all citizens an equal opportunity in the digital transition,” Minister Matz said, adding, “This call seeks to highlight and encourage projects that make technology accessible in a practical, inclusive, and sustainable way. By taking action today, we can ensure a fair digital society by 2030.”

Closing the digital divide is one of the primary objectives of the programme. While only 54.23% of Belgians made full use of digital technologies in 2021, the European Union’s target is to raise that figure to 80% by 2030. The initiative also seeks to increase female participation in the digital sector. Currently, Europe aims to grow the number of women in digital professions from 8.9 million to 20 million within five years.

The call for projects is being coordinated by Belgium’s Federal Public Service for Economy (FOD Economie). A total budget of €1.15 million is available, with each approved project eligible for subsidies ranging between €80,000 and €200,000.
