Brussels political facilitator Yvan Verougstraete has concluded his second round of consultations aimed at breaking the political deadlock in the capital, his spokesperson confirmed on Friday.

This latest round of discussions centred on the budget.

Verougstraete, who is also the president of Les Engagés, plans to “take stock” over the weekend and intends to provide an update early next week. His ultimate goal is to hand over to a formateur, paving the way for a government agreement to be reached by 15 September.

The meetings were conducted in a “consistently constructive atmosphere,” according to his spokesperson.

Earlier in the week, Verougstraete sent a detailed 17-page note to the political parties he had met during the previous round of talks. In the document, the centrist leader proposed achieving a balanced budget by 2032 - a compromise between the five years suggested by the MR and the ten years preferred by the PS.
