Significant traffic delays expected on motorway leading to Brussels

Significant traffic delays expected on motorway leading to Brussels
bicycle lane crossings will be added to the intersection of Léon Soetemanslaan, Gordaallaan and Leuvensteenweg.

Starting on Monday 21 February, work crews will limit traffic to a single lane on a heavily-travelled stretch of N3 motorway in Tervuren just outside the Brussels-Capital Region, near the British School of Brussels and the Africa Museum.

The Tervuren Roads and Traffic Agency will install improved pedestrian and bicycle lane crossings where the Léon Soetemanslaan, Gordaallaan and Leuvensteenweg intersect. Pedestrians and cyclists cross at this intersection to access Tervuren Park and travel to and from several nearby schools.

The work is scheduled to complete by Friday 4 March. Until then, however, significant traffic disruption is expected, according to a statement sent to residents from the local authorities.

For the past year, improving bicycle and pedestrian safety in Flanders has been a priority for the regional government. In 2021, Flanders spent €355 million on various cycle paths and cycle highways, The Brussels Times previously reported.

The cycling infrastructure projects are designed to reduce the number of accidents involving cyclists and motor vehicles and encourage more people to use cycling to commute to and from school or work.
