Two people were injured in a shooting on Saturday morning in Liège, local police reported.
Shots were fired around 6:30 near the Hazinelle tram stop along Boulevard d’Avroy in the city centre.
Police confirmed that one person sustained minor injuries and another moderate injuries; both have been taken to hospital and their lives are not in danger.
Authorities have established a security perimeter in the area and are actively searching for the suspects. Tram services in the affected zone have been suspended.
Stéphane Thiery, spokesperson for the Letec transport company, stated that the incident did not occur on board a tram. Tram services were halted at the request of the police, and replacement T-buses have been deployed to assist passengers.
T-buses are substitute vehicles used to maintain transport when tram operations are disrupted due to accidents, construction, or other incidents.
Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting was not an act of terrorism, but rather stemmed from a personal dispute.
As of 9:00, no arrests had been made, and the judicial investigation is ongoing.
