Rainbow flags were displayed inside and outside Seattle Stadium during the World Cup Group G match between Egypt and Iran.
Local LGBTQI+ organisations had designated the game as a Pride Match, though FIFA declined to endorse it formally.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasised that the match is just like any other in the tournament and is not officially recognised as a Pride Match.
The waving of rainbow flags was permitted by FIFA, stating it complies with established rules.
A FIFA spokesperson reiterated that the World Cup is an inclusive event welcoming people from all backgrounds.
