Firefighters expect clearance and cooling operations to continue for many hours following a fire in a warehouse in Schaerbeek on Thursday night.
Emergency services were called at around 21:20 to a fire in a three-storey warehouse between Rue Verte and Rue de Brabant.
The warehouse contained mattresses and fabrics, creating a heavy fire load and making the blaze more difficult to tackle.
The flames did not spread to neighbouring homes, but nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. The fire has now been brought under control.

Schaerbeek acting mayor Martin de Brabant of the MR party activated a municipal emergency plan to provide shelter for residents unable to return home for the night.
By around 02:00 on Friday, the Brussels Fire Brigade announced that the blaze was under control.
No injuries have been reported at this stage, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Firefighters are now continuing clearance work and cooling the remaining hot spots, in what is expected to be a lengthy operation.
