Second-year fashion student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Gabrielle Szwarcenberg, was selected by Brussels Airlines to design and create new uniforms for aircraft crew.
Szwarcenberg was one of five students initially selected to work on their vision for a new uniform to communicate Brussels Airlines’ brand identity. The new uniform will be presented in Spring 2023 and become the new standard for cabin crews in Summer 2023, according to a Brussels Airlines news release.

“I am so thrilled to get the opportunity to completely redesign the airline aesthetic with a fresh new design perspective; and especially for such an iconic Belgian company such as Brussels Airlines,” Szwarcenberg said.
Behind the Scenes
Barbara Fleury, Uniform Coordinator at Brussels Airlines, said the staff’s preferences and needs for the new uniform design were a large part of the process. Staff were surveyed prior to student selection to gather their expectations and desires for the new uniforms.
“We want everyone to feel good in their uniform and to be able to be themselves,” Fleury said.
Partnership with the Royal Academy was a way to strengthen the Belgian identity Brussels Airlines stands on and a way for Belgian talent to be showcased on a grander scale, Michel Moriaux, Head of Marketing at Brussels Airlines, said.
