Belgium is seeing a marriage boom this summer after many weddings were put off due to the pandemic. But the cost of civil ceremonies in Brussels can vary greatly depending on the municipality, reports Sud Presse.

The price range is huge, going from €0 to €665. However, couples can't just pick and choose their venue based on the price – by law, one of the couple must live in the municipality where they tie the knot.

Choosing the moment

Woluwe-Saint-Pierre is the cheapest commune for civil marriage, costing just €50 for the ceremony on weekdays as well as Saturdays. It is possible to get married Friday mornings between 10:00 and 12:00 free of charge.

Berchem-Sainte-Agathe also has some of the lowest rates, with a fee of €61.33 on weekdays and Saturday mornings. On Saturday afternoons, the price rises to €184.

Most municipalities offer one or more free days to get married, particularly on Fridays. Municipalities such as Anderlecht, Berchem-Saint-Agathe, Uccle and Saint-Josse offer Saturdays as a free day for wedding festivities.

On the other hand, some municipalities increase the fees for celebrations on Saturdays. The most expensive commune is  Watermael-Boitsfort, which charges €665 on Saturday afternoons and €240 Saturday mornings.

In Forest, the price for an afternoon wedding on a Saturday is €450. Schaerbeek costs €280 on Saturday afternoon and €35 on Fridays; there is no charge on Wednesdays.

Prices vary in the City of Brussels, with an array of options available. A wedding costs €50, but if the couple wishes to wave to the crowds on Grand Place from the balcony, they will have to pay €250.
