People across cities in Belgium will be able to solve puzzles and race the clock in an escape room entirely in the dark hosted by the Braille League, the association announced in a press release.
The escape room will make its way around eight Belgian cities starting in Brussels on 4 July. The travelling activity is a way to raise awareness of the daily lives that blind and partially-sighted people lead.
Though tasked to solve riddles and escape the room in the darkness, participants will be provided with tools often used by visually impaired people.
“This will not only offer a fun time with family, friends or colleagues, but also shift mindsets to make society more inclusive,” the Braille League noted in the release.
One summer, eight cities
Participants can reserve their 45-minute sessions on the Escape Room in the Dark website for €59. Each session can accommodate between two to five participants ages 8 and above and is offered seven days a week from 10:00 to 18:00.
Outside of the escape room, people will also be able to try out a free virtual reality experience which simulates what people with cataracts, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other eye diseases see.

The games will be offered until 28 August in eight cities for six days in each city: Brussels, Louvain-la-Neuve, Durbuy, Namur, Leuven, Ghent, Ostend and Knokke in order.
Escape Room in the Dark is supported by CERA, CBC, Deloitte, Escape Games Belgium, the Province of Luxembourg and RTBF.
