The testimony given by a babysitter in Kessel-lo in Flanders following an accident involving a six-month-old baby are not consistent with the child’s injuries, the Leuven prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday. The infant sustained serious injuries and is now in an artificial coma.
As previously reported, the caregiver claimed that the child had fallen from her arms onto a changing table. The baby suffered a fractured skull and cerebral haemorrhage. The baby was rushed to the hospital following the incident.
Due to the seriousness of the child’s injuries, a medical expert was assigned by the prosecution. According to the expert, the story told by the caregiver (that the baby fell from her arms onto the table) is “not compatible with the injuries suffered by the baby.” The babysitter upheld her version of events before a magistrate on Wednesday.
