Two teenage girls aged 12 and 13 are suspected of murdering their 12-year-old peer, Luis, Germany. The prosecutor Mario Mannweiler and police announced on Tuesday that Luis had numerous stab wounds and substantial blood loss.

Luis was last seen on Saturday when she left to go to a friend's house around 17:00. Her parents raised alarm when she did not return home that evening. The girl's body was found lifeless near a bicycle path in a woodland area near a former rail station on Sunday. The police have yet to find the murder weapon.

The two suspects have confessed to the murder, according to Mannweiler. However, because they are under 14 years of age they are not subject to criminal law. The girls have therefore not been arrested, but are in the custody of a youth welfare office, where they may be subject to youth probation.

Due to the suspect's age, authorities have not yet released the motive for the crime.

Wüst promised that the authorities will do everything in their power to shed light on the circumstances of the crime. He also mentions in a tweet that crimes committed by minors under the age of 14 are becoming more frequent in recent years.
