A man was found dead in a car on Wednesday evening in the East of Brussels. As it is possible he may have been shot, a murder investigation has been opened.

Around 21:00, the police were called to the intersection of Avenue de Tervueren and Boulevard de la Woluwe in Woluwé-Saint-Pierre, where a person was spotted lying unconscious in his vehicle, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday.

"Once at the scene, several witnesses reported that a second vehicle was involved and shots were fired," the Prosecutor's Office wrote in a statement.

Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and attempts were made to resuscitate the driver, however, he was soon pronounced dead. It is possible that he may have been shot dead, but this has not yet been confirmed.

A murder investigation has now been opened. The police set up a judicial perimeter at the scene on Wednesday night to preserve all traces useful for the investigation.
