FPS Interior activated its emergency number 1722 on Friday morning, which Belgians can call if they need assistance in case of a storm or potential flooding.
The number was activated following heavy rainfall on Thursday evening, with the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) warning FPS Interior over the risks the bad weather posed.
The number is always pre-emptively opened to the public whenever a storm occurs to avoid overloading other emergency call centres.
For example, FPS Interior's emergency number 112 deals with life-threatening situations, while calling 1722 can help Belgians receive assistance from the fire brigade.
