A new cycle bridge over the Chaussée de Haecht in Melsbroek (Steenokkerzeel) was inaugurated on Thursday. It provides a better link between the centre of Vilvoorde and Brucargo, the logistics zone of Brussels Airport.
The 40-metre red bridge was designed so that employees in the airport cargo area can get to work more easily. It forms part of the F214 Vilvoorde-Brucargo cycle route.
"Workers living in the northern suburbs can now reach the airport by bicycle in complete safety, with a much more comfortable journey than before," the airport said in a press release.

"A box bridge was built at the intersection of the F214 Vilvoorde-Brucargo and FR20 Ring cycle routes in the Brussels Airport cargo area to provide a smooth passage for cyclists.
Arnaud Feist, general manager of Brussels Airport Company, stated that "about 4% of the employees who work at Brussels Airport come by bike."
Brussels Airport invested €200,000 in the bridge with EU funds adding €700,000 via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Flemish government contributed €900,000.
