Electric car manufacturer Tesla has been ordered to reimburse a Belgian man for his purchase of a faulty company vehicle worth €158,600.

The man had been engaged in a legal battle with the American company for four years, claiming that his car – a Model S P100D electric vehicle – was plagued with serious problems. The Antwerp Court of Appeal found in his favour, confirming the existence of serious shortcomings in terms of the car's driving comfort and safety.

In a Het Laatste Nieuws article published on Saturday, the customer listed a host of issues with his vehicle from day one: faulty sensors, imperfect brakes, and a defective display screen. All of these problems were confirmed by an independent investigation carried out by experts.

In its ruling, the Court of Appeal also criticised Tesla's failure to cooperate with the investigation, in particular by failing to provide the court-appointed experts with data relating to the vehicle.

Tesla has decided to appeal against the decision.
