Those who opt for Tax-on-Web still have until Saturday midnight to submit their tax return to the tax authorities, except if they have a specific income, in which case the deadline is 18 October 2023.

Tax-on-Web is the Belgian Ministry of Finance's online platform where residents of the country can declare their personal income tax.

According to the latest figures from the Federal Public Service Finance, some 1.5 million tax returns were already sent in via Tax-on-Web from citizens, while an additional 420,983 returns were registered via a mandatary such as an accountant. The electronic declarations completed by a tax official are also added to this figure.

Those who still discovered an error in their declaration can amend the declaration once until 15 July. So after Saturday, a correction will no longer be possible via Tax-on-Web.

Belgians who submit the tax return via an accountant also now have July 15 as their deadline. For those with a self-employed income or foreign professional income, there is still a postponement until 18 October. The deadline for those who swear by sending in a paper form passed around two weeks ago.

Those who are late and missed the deadline this week can no longer submit the tax return via an accountant until autumn. People who miss the deadline could face a fine ranging between €50 to €1,250, as well as a possible tax increase of 10 to 200% on the undeclared income.

Tax-on-Web opened for the assessment year 2023 – looking at the income year of 2022 – on April 26. For the first time, according to the tax authorities, the return is gender-neutral. While previously the men in a couple filing their tax returns together were automatically in the first column and women in the second, now the oldest person always comes first.
