Two women aged 62 and 70 were arrested in the judicial investigation into an unsolved case from 2008, the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

In June 2008, a 27-year-old Antwerp man went missing. He was allegedly active in a criminal environment, according to the prosecutor’s office, with the man’s car having been recovered six months later in the Dutch town of Roosendaal.

However, there was no breakthrough in the investigation that followed, and the man’s body was never found.

Three years ago, the case was re-analysed by the Federal Judicial Police (FGP) of Antwerp. The judicial investigation resumed in 2021.

This led to four searches in Koekelberg, Enghien and Halle last Thursday. The FGP Antwerp was assisted by the lab and canine support service of the federal police. Two women aged 62 and 70 were arrested and questioned.

On Friday, they appeared before the investigating judge. The 62-year-old woman remains detained, and the 70-year-old woman was released under certain conditions.

The missing man’s family has been informed by the social assistant with the federal police.
