The inaugural Walloon light festival, set in Mons, will intertwine themes of surrealism and poetry and run for eight nights beginning in late January 2024.

Mons' historic city centre will be transformed into a three-kilometre trail, studded with 25 dazzling installations and luminous projections.

The event will cast the intricate architecture of the city into a shimmering tribute to local, national and international talent, including Scottish artist Robert Montgomery. The displays will be carefully curated in cooperation with local and regional artists and businesses.

This first edition of the festival, completely free of charge, will be a national celebration and tribute to poetry, marking the centenary of surrealism.

The Mons Light Festival forms part of the European Regional Development Fund's 2021-2027 agenda. The full event programme will be unveiled at a press conference to be held in Brussels on 8 December 2023.
