Human remains have been discovered on Saturday morning in the waters of the Eau d'Heure lakes after two divers went missing on Thursday night at the Plate Taille site in Froidchapelle, Hainaut.

The missing divers, who come from Liège, had not been seen since their night dive at around 17:00 on Thursday at the Plate Taille site. The Charleroi Public Prosecutor's Office commented on Friday morning: "This site is not at all intended for such an activity, but there seem to be frequent scuba divers at the Eau d'Heure lakes."

The son of one diver raised the alarm to the authorities, worried as he hadn't heard from his father and had found his car still parked at the site.

The search effort, which began on Thursday evening with the assistance of civil protection divers using sonar, led to the discovery of equipment belonging to two different people late on Friday. The search resumed on Saturday morning and ultimately led to the finding of human remains.

"They will be examined by the Disaster Victim Identification and by a forensic doctor, but it is highly likely that they are the two victims," the Charleroi Public Prosecutor's Office stated on Saturday, confirming the conclusion of the search.
