A child under the age of 10 was hit by a car on Wednesday on Rue Gallait, near école n° 2, in Schaerbeek.

The child was not seriously injured but was taken to the hospital for a check-up, according to reports. The driver responsible remained on site and was found not to be under the influence of alcohol.

The incident was confirmed by Matthieu Henroteau, spokesman for the Brussels-North police zone, to Belga. An investigation will now be conducted to determine under what circumstances the accident occurred.

This is the third traffic accident involving a child in Schaerbeek in a few weeks.

On June 5, a six-year-old boy was hit on rue Dupont by a motorist who fled. He was not hurt. And on June 13, a 14-year-old was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident but has recovered.

In response, the municipality of Schaerbeek announced that it will improve the pavement markings in a busy junction.
