The CurieuCity arts and sciences festival will make its debut in Molenbeek from 3 to 5 May, giving Brussels residents a glimpse into the "city of the future", revealed the organisers on Monday.

Initiated by the Innoviris consortium, CurieuCity aims to "foster a lasting and participative interest in science by co-constructing projects with local communities and schools throughout the year." The festival is organised in partnership with ULB, VUB and the artistic institute Ohme.

Each festival edition will address a theme inspired by the local neighbourhood realities where it takes place. For instance, in Saint-Gilles, the focus will be on life in the Wiels Marsh and water management issues in the area. In the Marolles, the festival will emphasise the importance of human interaction, particularly the role of combat sports in social cohesion.

The inaugural event will feature a journey through the streets surrounding the Gare de l'Ouest Station, with children’s workshops which look into the impact of urban areas on the climate using Lego. Other workshops will allow youngsters to learn about plant anatomy, urban food production, and multiculturalism. Visitors can also expect experimental exhibitions, concerts, walks and never-before-seen performances.

This free event, taking place at the Gare de l'Ouest Station in Molenbeek from 3 to 5 May, will subsequently move to the Wiels Marsh and Saint-Antoine District, between Forest and Saint-Gilles, from 27 to 29 September. It will return to Molenbeek, in the canal zone, from 11 to 13 October, before finally taking place in the Marolles from 29 November to 1 December.
