The temperatures rose to 34.7°C in the official measuring station in Uccle on Tuesday afternoon – breaking the record for the warmest 1 July from 2015 (34.5°C), according to the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).

The heat record was surpassed shortly before 14:00 in Uccle, according to David Dehenauw of the RMI. This means that Tuesday is officially the warmest 1 July in Belgium since records began in 1833.

"Previous record from 2015 (34.5°C) is a thing of the past. The final result will be announced later," said Dehenauw on social media.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 'code orange' warning for heat applies across all of Belgium (except on the coast). The RMI expects maximum temperatures above 35°C in many places. Locally, in Brussels, temperatures of more than 37°C are being recorded.

Earlier on Tuesday, the RMI also announced that the month of June 2025 is the second-warmest June in the country since 1833, with an average temperature of 19.3°C Celsius. Only June 2023 was warmer, with an average monthly temperature of 20.3°C.
