From now on, people travelling with Brussels Airlines can use the new 'Baggage drop-off' system at Brussels Airport, where they can check in their baggage themselves instead of having to wait in line.

Passengers for short- and medium-haul destinations of Brussels Airlines and the other Lufthansa Group companies (Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian) who already checked in for their flights online can now also check in their own baggage.

With their boarding pass, passengers can print out their baggage label for their suitcase at one of the 16 new kiosks and then drop it off at one of the six baggage belts – saving them a considerable amount of time.

The new system was phased in during the summer holidays, as airports struggled to keep up with the high number of travellers following two years of restrictions and travel bans during the Covid-19 pandemic, which resulted in long queues, hundreds of flight delays and cancellations and numerous strikes across Europe.

During July and August, 35,000 suitcases (nearly 10% of the suitcases on Lufthansa Group short- and medium-haul flights), were already checked in via the Baggage drop-off, which is installed at check-in row 4.

More than 75% of Brussels Airlines passengers are already checked-in at home and have their boarding pass in their pocket, meaning they can check in their suitcase faster – enabling up to 400 passengers per hour to check in their baggage.

Of course, passengers can still opt to get their baggage checked in at the human check-in desks.
