The man who killed a female employee in a hotel near the Brussels Ring Road in March was found dead in his cell in the prison of Saint-Gilles, according to the public prosecutor of Halle-Vilvoorde.

The Brussels public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the man’s death, which took place on Tuesday evening.

Two weeks ago, the man killed a 33-year-old hotel employee at a hotel in Ruisbroek in Flemish Brabant, and it was later discovered that he had recently escaped from a psychiatric institution in Marseille and was wanted by the French courts.

Reports have found there are no signs of suicide, however, an autopsy will be carried out to bring more clarity about the cause of death.
