A 63-year-old Dutch horse rider passed away on Saturday afternoon near Hoogstraten in the Antwerp Kempen, according to local police.
Jan Mathijssen was competing in a side event of the European Cup in Hoogstraten, an amateur competition. After the event, he began to feel unwell and emergency services were contacted.
Despite being taken to the hospital, Mathijssen unfortunately passed away shortly afterwards. With the family’s consent, the event will continue as planned over the weekend.
