One person was seriously injured after being shot on Tuesday night in Anderlecht, Belga reports.
This is according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Brussels-Midi police, which covers Anderlecht, Saint-Gilles and Forest, confirming an initial report by La Dernière Heure.
The incident occurred around midnight on Rue Docteur De Meersman Street.
"Our teams were called to a shooting. Once on the scene, they discovered a victim with multiple injuries," said local police.
The injured person was taken to hospital in serious condition. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.
"We thought rock bottom had been reached. But then it manages to take yet another step further backwards," Jens Popelier, an Anderlecht resident, told the Brussels Times, earlier this week.
He and several others have written an open letter to denounce the situation of insecurity in the neighbourhood of Cureghem.
