Russian forces have broken through Ukrainian defensive lines near Dobropillia in the Donetsk region and are advancing towards the strategic corridor between Dobropillia and Kramatorsk, according to the military analysis site DeepState, which is closely linked to the Ukrainian army.

DeepState’s mapping data indicates that Russian troops have breached Ukrainian lines over a stretch of approximately 12 kilometres. The Russian units have established positions in the localities of Kucheriv Yar, Zolotyi Kolodiaz, and Vesele, and are also attempting to secure gains in Petrivka and Novovodiane, quickly advancing towards Dobropillia.

This offensive forms part of a larger military operation conducted between Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka since spring, with its pace significantly accelerating in August. Russia currently controls about three-quarters of Donetsk province. The collapse of certain front-line sectors threatens to hand over the entire region to Russian forces, endangering the key city of Kramatorsk.

Furthermore, the breakthrough places major Ukrainian supply routes within the reach of Russian drones, complicating the defence of the eastern region. DeepState warns that further Russian attacks appear “inevitable” once new positions are secured.

This escalation heightens tensions ahead of the upcoming US-Russia summit scheduled for Friday in Alaska between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainian military spokespeople declined to comment. On X, the former chief of staff of the Azov regiment, Bogdan Krotevyts, described the situation as a “total disaster” and claimed that Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad are already encircled.
