Starting Monday, LinkedIn will begin using public data from its users in the European Union and other regions to train generative AI models, the company announced in a blog post.

The California-based platform said that, from 3 November, it will use certain information, such as profile details, posts, articles, comments, and CVs submitted during job applications to develop its AI systems.

LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft since 2016, employs generative AI models powered by Microsoft's Azure OpenAI services to improve its platform.

The company stressed that private messages and salary data will not be included. Users can opt out of the initiative through LinkedIn’s privacy settings.

It also confirmed that accounts belonging to minors will be excluded, even if preferences suggest otherwise.

The policy, already in effect in the United States, will now extend to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Hong Kong, and other regions.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, introduced a similar policy in May, allowing users to opt out by submitting a form.
