This year, telecommunications company Proximus wants to launch an internet offering with speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which is ten times faster than the current top speed on the Belgian market.

By the end of this year, the telecom operator will launch an internet subscription with a theoretical speed of 10 Gbps on the market for consumers and companies. With this, Proximus wants to show its "superiority" in terms of network, according to CEO Guillaume Boutin, reports the Belga News Agency.

However, not every customer on the Proximus fibre-optic network will be able to reach the top speed immediately, meaning the offer will not be available to all customers at the beginning. A new router and new WiFi boosters are required for the higher speeds.

What the prices will be, or which locations will be the first to benefit from faster internet is not yet clear, but "the end of 2022 is still a long way off," Boutin said.

Additionally, for those who attach more importance to price than speed, Proximus is bringing a new internet subscription onto the market: Internet Essential costs €25/month for 100 GB of volume and 50 Mbps of download speed.

The formula replaces Internet Start, which cost €27.5. Clients who only have a fibre optic cable at their disposal will also be able to subscribe, but they will have to be patient for a few more months.
