Flights at Brussels Airport were interrupted twice on Thursday afternoon due to stormy weather. Some flights were diverted, while others were delayed, according to the airport.
Ground operations had to be temporarily halted for security purposes, explained Nathalie Pierard, Spokesperson for Brussels Airport. Flights were suspended at first at 13:00 for 40 minutes, then once more at 14:00 for 20 minutes.
A dozen flights were diverted to Liège and Charleroi airports due to the storm that hit Brussels Thursday afternoon. An Icelandair plane initially landed in Charleroi before continuing its flight to Zaventem airport.
There were multiple delays for both arriving and departing flights, with some delays up to two hours based on the flight schedule on the Brussels Airport homepage. The airport hopes that there will not be any further delays by the end of the afternoon.

Brussels was hit by stormy weather Thursday afternoon in a 'code yellow' alert after several sunshine-filled days. The weather could worsen by Friday and the Brussels-Capital Region could put out an orange alert.
An orange alert signals the risk of violent thunderstorms coupled with heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. A yellow alert, by contrast, indicates potential thunderstorms accompanied by sustained showers.
