The E40 motorway towards the coast is open again, but traffic remains heavy due to another accident in Zwijnaarde, East Flanders, according to the Flemish Traffic Centre.
A multi-vehicle crash near Wetteren, East Flanders, had led to the closure of almost the entire E40 earlier on Monday.
The incident occurred at around 11:30. Around ten vehicles were involved. One person sustained minor injuries, and two others were taken to hospital, according to the federal police.
Only the hard shoulder was passable, so queues built up, resulting in waiting times of over an hour and a half. The situation has since returned to normal in Wetteren, but another accident is now blocking the left-hand lane near Zwijnaarde.
