A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a mother of two who was found dead in her flat in Saint-Gilles on 6 October.
The suspect, identified as Mamady K., was arrested on 9 October and placed in pre-trial detention on suspicion of murder by an investigating judge in Brussels. The news was first reported by La Capitale and confirmed by the suspect’s lawyer.
The woman’s body was discovered in her flat on Parvis de Saint-Gilles after her two daughters were not collected from school on Tuesday afternoon.

The school had raised the alarm because the mother, who normally took both children to school every morning, had not picked them up as usual. According to the report, the children had been dropped off that day by a man.
When no one came to collect the girls, the school contacted the police. Officers traced the children’s home address and found the mother’s body there at about 23:30 that evening.
Investigators believe she died as a result of violence.
Three days later, on 9 October, detectives arrested Mamady K. According to La Capitale, he had been staying at a Red Cross reception centre in the Verviers area.
Last Thursday, the Brussels pre-trial chamber extended his detention by one month.
