The annual so-called 'Strap Day' will take place on Friday 16 September in Flanders and Brussels when as many children as possible go to school by bike or on foot. This year is the sixteenth year of Strap Day.

Cars are banned in the school vicinity and children, after a brisk walk or bike ride, are generally more relaxed in the classroom. Various schools organise activities around Strap Day.

Mobility Week starts on Friday. Traditionally, Strap Day takes place at the start of the week, during which school pupils and their parents are encouraged to leave the car for at least one day and come to school on foot or by bicycle. Not only does this create a quieter and safer school environment, but children are also fresher and more concentrated in the classroom.

Through the ‘Strong Together’ campaign, schools raise awareness and motivate all parents and children to actively move to school. “It doesn’t stop with that one day, but it’s important to stay this way for the rest of the school year,” the organization says.

The annual theme "solidarity" has been incorporated in the brand new Strap Song and the various activities on the program. The campaign is an initiative of Het Octopusplan and is part of the Mobility Week that will take place from 16 to 22 September 2022. All activities can be found via this link.
