The SNCB, Belgium's rail operator, announced today two new subscription campaigns as well as the possibility to now purchase subscriptions direct from their website.

The first promotion is for anyone who currently or in the past six months, had a standard commuting subscription or an “unlimited” subscription. They can request a free return ticket that allows them to travel throughout Belgium.

At the same time, the rail company is launching a promotional campaign which offers a temporary 50% discount on a monthly commuter pass. The promotion only applies to those who have not had an active subscription in the past six months (since March 15 2022).

It is the first time that SNCB is offering these promotions on subscriptions. The company hopes that they will help people (re)discover the train.

During the pandemic, the SNCB lost many travellers; passenger numbers are still about 10% lower during the week than before the health crisis. For the loyal customers who already have a commuter pass and therefore do not qualify for the discount, the SNCB offers a return ticket (a “Gift Ticket”) that is valid throughout Belgium. The free ticket is registered in name but this can be different to the subscriber.

The codes to enjoy the test subscription or the free ticket can be requested up to and including 31 October via the SNCB website and can be activated by 30 November 2022 at the latest.

The new online subscription option means that passengers can start a new subscription on the website. Until now, travellers could only renew a season ticket via the SNCB website.
