Three songs from Belgian artists Stromae, Lous and the Yakuza and Blackwave have been chosen for the soundtrack of FIFA 23, the latest edition of the football video game franchise, reports Flemish newspaper De Morgen.

Often viewed as the holy grail for discovering new music, featuring on the video game's soundtrack is often a source of pride for many upcoming artists, as well as often providing a route into the music mainstream.

While the soundtrack was once centred around English-language songs, the video game's developers EA Sports have broadened the horizons of their playlists to include international artists singing and rapping in different languages.

To that end, FIFA 23, the last edition before the game is renamed EA Sports FC, has chosen international superstars such as ROSALÍA and Bad Bunny to provide songs for this year's soundtrack.

Belgian bounce

In particular, three Belgian acts have been picked for the soundtrack: Stromae, Lous and the Yakuza and Blackwave.

Stromae's inclusion is unsurprising given his status as possibly Belgium's most recognised musician since Jacques Brel.

Lous and the Yakuza and Blackwave proved to be more inspired choices.

For Blackwave, the Flemish duo from Antwerp, their productions aim is to combine a wide variety of influences from rap, jazz, rock and R&B, and have recently released a new album in September called 'No sleep in LA.'
