For fitness enthusiasts, the range of sports practices is almost infinite. However, some activities are more popular than others. In a study by the Puregym chain, the 20 most popular workouts according to Google Data were rated. The study suggested that the 12-3-30 method, based on walking on a treadmill, will be the fitness workout trend of 2023.

These numbers, 12-3-30, are the settings to record on a treadmill. The incline is set to 12, the speed to 3 and the duration of the session is 30 minutes. Created by influencer Lauren Giraldo, this routine, is to be done five times a week.

"Walking is already a fantastic cardiovascular activity," PureGym personal trainer Laura Eaton said in a statement. "Walking at an incline elevates heart rate, which improves cardiovascular health and endurance."

In second place on the study’s list of popular practices is CrossFit, with an increase of 173.21% in popularity over the course of one year. Created in the early 2000s in California, this high-intensity sport can be practiced alone but in general, it is done with others. This makes it possible to create a community around training. The promised effects of this sport are fat loss, plus muscle and strength gain.

Far from the search for performance, "soft" sports are well represented in study. In fourth place, is the "75 soft" challenge which saw an increase in popularity of 124% compared to the previous year. Launched in response to the "75 hard” challenge, a physical and mental programme offering high-intensity sports classes followed by a strict diet, to be followed for 75 days, the "75 soft" leaves more freedom. It is based on four rules:

  • do 45 minutes of sport a day,
  • eat healthily and drink alcohol only on special occasions,
  • read 10 pages of a book a day
  • drink three litres of water a day.

Elsewhere in the study’s top 20, Pilates recorded an increase of 83.60% in popularity and yoga is up 49.72%.
