A Delhaize shop in Waterloo was the latest subject of staff strikes on Saturday morning, as employees placed shopping trollies as a barrier in front of car park entrances and strikers picketed the front of the shop.
In Walloon Brabant, Delhaize management obtained a new order this week banning picketing in front of shops on pain of a fine. The order will be in force until 27 June but trade unionists have nonetheless decided to continue protest actions.
“This order was shown to us by a bailiff on Wednesday when we closed the Delhaize in Genval. We're playing cat and mouse to remind management that we’re still here and that staff don’t want the franchise. There are actions in all the regions today”, said Christophe Bouvier, permanent secretary for commerce at Setca Brabant-Wallon.

In addition to protests by Delhaize staff, solidarity actions involving support committees formed by Delhaize customers have been announced for this Saturday in Brussels, Namur, Mons and Liège.
These committees are defending the right of staff to strike and want to inform and convince other customers to refuse to franchise the shops, via actions to boycott the Lion brand.
