People on their way to go on vacation are causing significant traffic congestion on the Flemish highways on Friday afternoon.

The Flemish traffic management centre has already registered over 150 km of traffic jams and the bottlenecks are expected to grow even further.

Overall, 215 km of traffic jams have been registered throughout the country indicated Hajo Beeckman, traffic information specialist at VRT.

Brussels region's inner ring is at a standstill between Anderlecht and the viaduct of Vilvoorde while traffic is also significantly slowed down on the outer Ring between Wezembeek-Oppem and Vilvoorde as well as between Wemmel and Grand-Bigard.

Antwerp’s ring is also congested. Bottlenecks stretch on the E17 and E34. While on the E313, the traffic jams go in both directions all the way up to Ranst.
